A circular 8 mile walk in an area not normally noted for its scenic beauty, more for an industrial past, but the industry has since disappeared and nature has reclaimed its own. A grossly polluted river has returned to fishy pastoral purity, filthy steel works are now leafy bowers, scar like quarries have become fascinating landscape anomalies and where chuntering steam locos once hauled coal trains there are now idyllic trails, twittering birds and profusions of flowers.

If you are beginning to suspect that I am taking the p*** - well, yes, you're right, but there are indeed, unexpected wide ranging views, quaint villages, and interesting industrial relics on this walk, as well as an optional pub lunch stop with acclaimed real ales and at the end of the walk, coffee at a cafe on the pretty Chesterfield canal.

There may also be a chance to visit the Barrow Hill Round house and the Revolution House museums

Food / Drink: please bring a packed lunch, if you prefer not to eat at the pub, and something to drink.

Equipment:  walking boots, waterproof jacket and trousers, warm clothing, warm hat and/or Sun hat. Trekking pole(s) recommended if normally used.
