A delightful walk around the stunningly beautiful Llyn Padarn lake at Llanberis. We start off walking through 'the Lagoons', a series of mini-lakes created by the dumping of slate waste &  now very popular with paddle-boarders and canoeists. Then we follow a wooded old railway line next to the western side of the lake to its far end; the track is now used by walkers and a few cyclists rather than tourist trains. Here we leave the old railway line and pass round the northern end of the lake, passing Union Rock (Craig Yr Undeb) where the Quarrymen's Union was founded. Crossing the old bridge at the head of the lake (Penllyn) we enjoy one of the best views in Snowdonia along the lake and beyond it the rocky slopes of Snowdon and the Glyders. After this we leave the lake side and walk through old fields and woodlands, ascending a short distance for more spectacular views. We then follow old footpaths as far as the National Slate Museum at Gilfach Du with plenty of old slate workings. We the cross the 'Dol' (meadow) to return to the start point and a stop for a cup of tea and some cake at a cafe.
