A moderate 7.0 mile walk with a geological flavour, some good views and interesting industrial archaeology.

We explore the dramatic gritstone Torrs Gorge below New Mills town where there is a spectacular Millennium Walkway above the River Goyt. Display boards provide information on the industrial heritage of the town.

After following the Sett Valley Trail in the direction of Hayfield for 2.5 miles, we ascend 205m onto Ollersett Moor where there are some old coal workings and mine shafts.

Descending to Gowhole, near Furness Vale, we walk close to the River Goyt then back to Torrs Riverside Park and our starting point.

Equipment: walking boots, waterproof jacket & trousers, sun hat, sun cream, trekking pole(s) recommended if normally used.

Dogs: it is essential that dogs are kept on a short lead near other walkers and in the vicinity of livestock - there is open farmland on Ollersett Moor. The owner is responsible for performing any lifting that may be required over stiles.
