Fifteen walkers gathered at Tamworth Station to enjoy thisĀ 7.5-mile walk, making the most of a warm and sunny day. The route provided a combination of Anglo-Saxon history, wildlife and open countryside, with conditions ideal for a leisurely pace and plenty of opportunities to stop and take in the surroundings.
The walk's first stop was Tamworth Castle, whose commanding position was viewed as we wandered along the banks of the Tame and Anker rivers. From there, we entered the tranquil Tameside Local Nature Reserve, where the woodland and wetland habitats offered some shade.
Continuing on, the walkers reached the historic Tame Aqueduct for a coffee stop, an impressive feature carrying the canal above the River Tame. A relaxing picnic stop on the canal bridge near the hamlet of Hopwas provided a welcome opportunity to rest and enjoy the warm weather.
The final section followed the River Tame through open meadows, with a sociable cafe natter at the end.
Thanks to all who attended!
